None of the promised spectacular views, as reported in the websites on this peak, materialized due to the rain. However, we encountered an otherworldly experience where we were on mountain peak islands in a sea of fog. At times, nothing but fogs and clouds were visible. At others, only the tops of other island peaks. It was truly reminiscent of Caspar David Friedrich's painting “The Wanderer”, often used as an exemplar for both the Romantic period of painting and of literature; the latter as it has graced the cover of many versions of one of my favorite novels, Mary Shelley's “Frankenstein”. As an added bonus, what would typically amount to an extremely exposed and hot hike, was crisp and cool. A wonderful experience!
