Started soon after sunrise with my girlfriend and made our way up Dipsea, to Steep Ravine, to Pantoll & over to Old Stage and all the way up to the East Peak summit.
After a good lengthy break to hydrate and admire the clear views, we descended down the way we came, with a slight alternate, by finishing our down hill portion by selecting Matt Davis instead of back tracking down Steep Ravine. It was a slow and steady decline that didn't put us back at our car until just after sunset.
Peak number 3 of 6 complete.
BUT, this was not my first Mt. Tam rodeo at all. Stinson to Mt Tam summit is probably my most re-visited summit Hike out of all the SF Bay area. It was nothing really new or “challenging” for me.
This time, I wasn't alone though. My girlfriend decided to push herself to attempt this hike and succeeded. I couldn't have been more proud of her nor more impressed to witness her dig deep and accomplish her goal. She was in pain but kept on trekking on and wanted to finish. She was not looking for an easy way out. This is now the longest hike she has done to date, beating her previous personal best record of 10+ miles.
THAT is what will make this day, this trip, and this visit the most memorable for me.
Sharing this place with her and watching her set her own new bar.
