I'm a little late with my blog, back May, a team of four friends set out to complete two things:
The 1st: was Kristena and I were looking to summit Wilson Peak to knock out our challenge.
The 2nd: As canyoneering is our favorite pass time these days, and there were about 5 options to come down the mountain using ropes, we decided our exit would be mormon canyon.
Our friend Kate suggested we hike up North Wilson. She had done both trails, and said views were better and it less crowded from the North. I definitely loved this approach as it had nice views of Oak Creek Canyon.
After summiting Wilson and hitting the look out over Sedone, we continued around the backside of the mountain and began bush whacking our way down. We were rewarded for our efforts with 3 rappeles including 1 that was 310 feet of mostly free hanging with one of the best views of sedona I've ever seen.
Our exit included skipping rocks in an intermittent creek down stream. We finished using headlamps for light. Amazing star views. It was an amazing day, great all around great views. Only downside was at some point I put my hands into poison ivy or poison oak, which I found out I'm really allergic to. Great day highly recommend North Wilson, and if you have the skill, and like hanging from rope, mormon canyon is great.
