Hike Log

Why take the quick road, when you can take the 8 mile one?

Trailhead:

Pumpernickel Fields AKA Pumpelly Trail

Type of Hike:

Day hike

Trail Conditions:

Trail in good condition

ROAD:

Road suitable for all vehicles

Bugs:

Bugs were an annoyance

Snow:

Snow free

The trail head is just off the road without an official parking lot, but we arrived at 10:30am with plenty of space to park the bikes. Changing from moto gear to hiking gear was a difficult task given the swarm of bugs that tried to enter our every orifice. Luckily as the trail progressed, the bugs died down.  Just about the time you're going to say “moderate to difficult? hmph, who labeled this trail?” this trail will slap you in the face with some steep scrambles that never seem to end and will leave you with that booty burning. The trail was in good shape and pretty easy to follow (the parts through the forest get a little wishy washy but if I made it, anyone can).

The only part I can't figure out still is how long this trail really is.  The trail head sign says 4.5 miles. The challenge page says 4.2 miles. And my whoop band pulling from GPS shows 3.95 miles. I'd be interested to know what other people's recorded trail length was if they recorded it.
