Last time I hiked to the summit of Mt Baldy, California was in a drought and much of the trail was barren and the creeks dried up. After a wet winter and cool summer, San Antonio Falls was a torrent and the creek near the ski hut was warbling along with wildflowers growing in densely along the water. The weather was perfect, not too hot but bright and clear. We took the fire road up to the Notch for a quick respite and toilet use before tackling the Devil's Backbone to the summit. The trial is well traveled and clear. The summit was crowded and windy as always but he views were sweeping in all directions. We trekked cautiously down the step trail to the ski hut, smiling and encouraging fellow hikers taking the steep way to the summit. Unlike Mt Wilson last week, there were no bugs constantly flying inner faces.
