I am tackling this 6 peak challenge with my pup Laika.

We began just before dawn, made quick work of the first section thru to the forested area where it became clear we were the first on the trail that morning, by the number of spiderwebs we came across.  Thru the forest and to the switchback section it became clear the we were at elevation, even my pup was panting trying to catch her breath.  Into the flats section as the sun was just rising over the valleys below and showing the colors of the rocks the deer were pretty surprised to see people that early.  Past the first bench to the ascent was beautiful, thru the trees again to fork in the trail, we went right, first, to the summit.  Summit 1 just after 7:45 AM (US Toppo maps show 2 different peaks named Wilson), summit 2 just about 10-15 minutes later at ~8:00 AM.

But, we didn't stop there; we made the extra ~1.2 miles to the canyon overlook.  Definitely worth the “extra” walk.  The views of the canyon land below at this time of the morning with the sun just rising and the true colors of the rock just beginning to show, my pup and I took a well deserved rest and ate breakfast just enjoying the beautiful views of the canyons far below.

On the way back enjoying the views all the way down, we also made the “extra” ~0.4 miles to the Sedona overlook.  Again, worth the walk, the views from the area are absolutely breath taking.  All the valleys and canyons below, the geologic formations, the colors of the rocks cannot be described by words.  Both of these overlook areas are just gorgeous.

On the way back down we finally came across the first others making the way up, knowing that it was a holiday weekend and many of the trails in the area would likely be busy; my pup and I truly enjoyed the solitude of the morning.  Back at the trailhead the entire parking lot was full, many people waiting to park anywhere that was available.  My pup and I truly enjoyed this challenging trail the views and all the wild life, we will be going back to camp at the top one day.
