I'm so happy I finished my Six-Pack of Peaks with my husband on Wilson. It was challenging, and we almost felt like we were on roller skates on the way down, rolling over loose rocks on the downhill. Going up was a climb, but there were moments where the trail flattened out. Our hiking poles made it a little easier.
The best part, besides the view from the Sedona Overlook, were the fall colors – maples and oaks in bursting with red and gold. There were a few hardy bees and flies, but the cool air kept most away. The pine trees had shed some needles, and there wasn't much shade, but it was beautiful and quiet. It's still a less-traveled trail, which makes it special.
We also finished by 2:30pm and had just enough time to drive the mile to Indian Gardens for a well-deserved late lunch on their charming patio.
In just a few weeks, I'll do the Phoenix Summit Challenge. These hikes over the past 2 months have prepared me for the 26 miles I'll do in a day. I love the climb.
