Nice Sedona hike. Started just past the parking lot (full) and noticed Spur A trail led up to the main trail (0.6miles). Incline 95% of way to First Bench. No appreciable shade. Can be tough for some; rated as difficult in AllTrails. Bring a lot of water. Views are great. As you continue past First Bench, incline until switch backs to top. Some shade here. At the crest, beautiful tall pines and hardwoods. Evidence of previous fire. Views. Views. Views. At the crest there is a trail to the left that leads to the Sedona overlook…spectacular shear cliff with views of the valley below and red rocks. The right is a 1.5 mile walk to another overlook (was unable to do that this time as had friends waiting at First Bench). Will go again to see that. Others said the views are amazing.
All in all….nice challenging hike. Bring extra water though. The radiant heat from the rocks and the direct sun are perfect reasons to add an extra liter or 2.
And….it was tough to see trail running gazelles with a 16oz water bottle jog past. Impressive!!!!
