While spared by the recent and very close Kincaid fire, there is ample evidence of past fire fighting efforts along the route. With a wide road and consistent grade most of the way, this was a fairly easy and fast climb. The most challenging part of the hike is probably crossing the road safely – the parking area is across the street from the trailhead, and traffic speeds past in both directions.
For a summit known for its extreme winds, we caught it on a particularly gentle day, and we were able to linger at the top to enjoy the views. On the return we also stopped to observe a rock climbing class which was underway.
