This was my second time up to potato chip/Mt. Woodson summit. Felt so fun to be back. Took Fry-Koegel to avoid crowds. Such a fun and different way to hike Potato Chip/Mt. Woodson. The Fry-Koegel trail is well maintained, mostly shaded and very woodsy. We started at 6am and it was overcast, so not much city viewing, but it was awesome to look out and down at the fog and be above it, seeing tons of nearby mountains also poking through. We took the fire road back to make a loop, which is a steep paved road. I recommend going counter clockwise and taking it the way back like we did if you make a loop. You can also just come out and back in Fry-Koegel if you want for longer mileage. Truly the only bummer about this route is that you have to park in highway 67. But with many others doing so, it didn’t feel too bad.
