Grand Canyon local here. I've done rim to river, but never rim to rim.

I will say, check the NPS website frequently as you get close to your trip. The Bright Angel Trail is currently closed between Havasupai Garden and Phantom Ranch. This means on the southern leg of the hike you will need to take the South Kaibab trail, which lacks shade and water.
