This peak is pretty close to get to, and on this particular Tuesday morning, we go to the Red Box parking area and found only about four other vehicles there. The temperatures were perfect for hiking; probably around 50 degrees when we started and 59 when we finished. The sun is pretty strong and warm, but there are some shady stretches on this when you start early (we started at 7:19am).

The first two miles to the summit are pretty gentle, or they seem like it compared to the last mile, which goes straight up a ridge. The steep section is marked by a trail sign, but the trail splits here, with a more “obvious” trail heading down and around the ridge to Strawberry Meadow. Instead, look for the easy scramble route up the ridge.

Lots of spikey agave plants and thorny bushes to poke and scratch you, so you might want to wear long pants. I wore shorts, but I don't mind scratching my legs up a bit.

The views were fantastic, with an inversion layer over most of Los Angeles. No snow or ice, but there can be if we get a storm.

Total distance logged via GaiaGPS: 7 miles and 1,433′ of total vertical gain.
