What a great day to take on this monstrosity. The weather was perfect. The trail was fairly populated. Definitely the most difficult hike of my life to date! The altitude certainly did slow me down. My heart was beating incredibly fast, but I found that inhaling deeply through my nose and exhaling deeply through my mouth really got me into a good groove where I was able to continuing moving instead of having to stop and regulate, stop and regulate. I also felt that taking 600mg of Ibuprofen before the 10,000 ft mark really helped! Biggest recommendation is to be PREPARED! I carried 5L of fluids (water and electrolyte drinks) and almost went through it all by the time we descended. We were on the hike for 13 hours, from 5:30 – 6:30 PM. Such an intense experience and I was fortunate enough to do it with a great group of women I felt safe and comfortable with.
