Our final San Diego hiking excursion saw my friend and I bag SoCal 6-Pack Peak No. 17 of 18. The 13-mile (RT) Oak Grove Trail to High Point at Palomar Mountain is arguably my favorite of the “San Diego Six”. Not since Mt Baden-Powell, had we seen any semblance of snow or ice while hiking, but both covered the more shaded areas of the trail. The views from the summit were astonishing and the massive Lookout Tower is a sight to behold. While this trek should not be taken lightly, climbing 3,500 feet over 6.5 miles was a much-welcomed relief after summiting Iron Mountain (Big Iron) in the Angeles Nat’l Forest only two weeks prior. I would certainly recommend this trail to those looking for a solid workout and impeccable scenery.
