*Please excuse the language. A 17.77 mile oops of a hike calls for it.?

Well we had a dumbass brain fart moment today. My husband and I set out to hike my first hike of the NorCal Six Peak Challenge. We chose Mt. Umunhum as our first hike. We got a later start than we wanted. When I looked at the website, thought it said 7.7 miles thinking one way. We parked and made our way. Almost completely uphill the entire way. We came to a junction that went from fire road to trail. That is when we learned that there is another parking area thus making the hike a lot shorter. ??‍♀️ As in 7.7 miles round trip! ? By the time we got to the summit it was 8.3 miles and we climbed 159 steps! My ass hurt! We ate an apple and oh my it tasted so good. ? Took our obligatory photos and made our way down. Holy hell my knees were killing me! I’m like well at least it is all down hill. My husband reminded me that we will have an uphill and I was like no way. Sure enough BAM! It was so long. Then down hill hammered my knees. I was almost in tears. I toughed it out. Had to.? Then the last 1.5 miles was all uphill again. I had nothing in the tank. My stomach got wonky. It was getting dark. I told my husband go ahead and make sure we aren’t locked in. I had a head lamp. He did and I started trail running for half a mile. I then slowed down and as I came around the last corner my husband was right there and so was the parking lot. Two Ranger’s had come by and we told them we were hurrying. They were so nice and said no worries. We were so happy to be done. My knees are shot, my ass hurts and well cryo therapy is happening tonight and tomorrow. A great day, a challenging day and despite the additional mileage it was beautiful out and fun! We are choosing to look at it as a great training hike for our upcoming backpacking adventures.
