The hike was much colder and windy than expected, especially at the top, but we were luckily very prepared. It had icicle frozen grass on sides of trail and some small spots of snow as well. This was my first time on the mountain and we took the Five Oaks Trail off to the side going up which was beautiful.

  1. I plan on running this tomorrow. Was it really that cold? Forecast is in the 60s. Or just run later in the day?

    1. It’s not usually this cold here. Note the date of the hike was March 5th. You can check the forecast in Julian for a reasonable approximation of the weather forecast at Volcan.

      1. Thanks Jeff. I just finished Volcan and it was folly to think that I could run this from the bottom. Maybe after a really long warm up but it’s more steep than I gave it credit so I hiked it. You’re right, it wasn’t cold at all–just windy at the summit. On to the next..
