Video of the hike.
Hike to San Jacinto peak via the Palm Springs Tramway. Weather down in Palm Springs in the high 80's. Weather on the trail high forties, with a 35-55 MPH wind. And yet it was enough to get a sunburn on the only part of me that was exposed, the back of my neck.
Overall, the trail was in great condition. Although I did take a few wrong turns, that Alltrails help me recover from. There is still some snow along the trail. But nothing too major. A few patches of snow about 20 feet long on the trail. But most are well worn from hikers. I went up with microspikes, crampons, and even an ice axe, and didn't need any of them. Even hiked in my winter hiking boots, and really didn't need them. Had two hiking poles, and really only needed one. Needless to say, I carried up a lot of dead weight, that I didn't really need to. Took 2 liters of water, and used a bit over 1 liter.
Hike itself was beautiful. For at least 2/3 of the hike, you are hiking among the pines. Then for the final ascent, you will be in the manzanitas, and towards the peak it will get rocky, doing some boulder hopping. Even though it was in the 40-50's, it was a comfortable hike. Either through the tramway, or Idyllwild, this is one of nicer hikes in terms of scenery. Just really peaceful throughout the hike.
