I set out to do this hike with a full pack from the north side of the mountain rather than the standard south side. It was very challenging, to say the least. The total distance was 8 miles one way with 4,863.5ft elevation gain. The trail is rocky and washed in many areas making the trek harder than usual. I did encounter an angry rattlesnake that did not move off the trail at a 7000ft elevation. All in all the last 2.4 miles after icehouse was tough for me due to my low-calorie intake for the day. Don't forget to fuel up. I was pacing so well, I did not eat the volume or quality I needed to replenish my usage. Fun, tough, and beautiful hike. The summit has great views and camping spots.
