Mt. Wilson exceeded all my expectations. It was an overcast day and low 70's most of the day. I've hiked to Sturtevant falls before, but never above it. The falling leaves and overgrown ivy along the creek felt as if I was hiking in upstate New York.
After the switchbacks and that irritating sign (ya know the one that says “halfway rest”) I was pleased as the views started opening up approaching the summit.
Sat for awhile at the chairs before exploring the observatory area and the astronomical museum. Then headed down the Mt. Wilson trail. The charred trees gave this part an eerie feel, but beautiful nonetheless. From the Mt. Wilson toll road I thought I made a wrong trail turn, but then realized I was on the right path to the Winter Creek trail.
I explored a few campsites and cabins along the way, in case I want to backpack in someday. Overall I logged 16.1 miles and couldnt have asked for a better way to start the new year and this challenge!
Great way to start the Six Pack of Peaks!!! Cant wait to continue!

Mid-week is a great time to hit the peaks. Fewer crowds. Same epic views.
I’m glad you enjoyed Mount Wilson. Thanks for sharing the pic of the burned area of trail. Sad to see, but I’m thankful it wasn’t more extensive.
I’m originally from the Northeast. I also appreciated the hike along the creek as it reminded me of hiking in New York and Pennsylvania.
