I stopped many times on the way up this monster, querying myself as to where the flock can the trail up this monolith-like peak possibly go? But obviously there is a trail and lots of signage to keep me on it.
For myself with a fear of heights, this peak took much mental fortitude to keep putting one foot in front of the other – and not a foot to the side as the side was often straight down!
Near the top there were 2 vultures lounging on an outcropping. I couldn’t help but wonder if they were waiting for a hiker 😉
The summit had outstanding views all around, and I also took a side trip to the secondary summit which included a short but doable scramble.
I’m super thankful for the solid wire roping that provided a safe experience up and down the many steep portions, and also for the suggestion to bring gloves – a must for the ropes and the holding onto something I did 80% of the time.
