We started the Wasson Peak trail after hiking [climbing] Picacho Peak, so our arms and legs had already had a workout! Our M.O. was: “Just keep hiking”. We had read from another challenger the benefits of taking the loop trail and starting in reverse. So glad we did.
Our 4th peak in the challenge, we took the Gould Mine Trail to the left. Summited. Took the King Canyon Trail on the descent. We missed the petroglyphs at 0.9 miles from the trailhead (forgot to look for them), but really loved the variety of views and trails (sand/rocky) by taking the loop. We did see a baby deer and lizards on the trail, too.
RECOMMEND: Visiting the Red Hills Visitor Center and grabbing a paper map before. Also, if you hike Wasson Peak, go back to the Visitor Center for a free pin! All that’s required is to do a 3-mile hike (photo below).
So many pretty views, cactus shapes and shifting skies.
It was a great day.
