After reading some of the previous posts about this hike, I had low expectations.
We had my friend's husband drive us 2.5 miles below the Four Corners trailhead because neither of our vehicles were suitable for tackling the road. A good decision for sure. We saw some cars turning around because their vehicles just couldn't handle the rough terrain.
We always opt to start our hikes early so there was only one other hiker on the trail. We chose to stay on the fire road because the one track was overgrown and had been referred to as very buggy by other hikers. Although this did cause us to run into some off roading vehicles, it was not a problem for us at all.
The weather was warm but we caught shade sometimes. The peak WAS incredibly buggy, but other than that the bugs weren't terrible.
We had a really nice day and the peak was just breathtaking. I really enjoyed this one!
