First time up in the Cucamonga Wilderness in a while so I figured I might as well go for it and do what is known as ECBO. This means Etiwanda, Cucamonga, Bighorn, and Ontario Peaks all in one hike. Let me start by saying super long day and it was in the 90’s by the time I finished. I was pretty gassed by the end between the elevation and temperature but I successfully solo hiked it. Etiwanda is a less traveled peak for most and consists of a lot of downhill after you have already climbed 3,000 feet up to then go straight up again. This is then followed by an extremely steep trail up to Cucamonga that bypasses the normal summit trail. From there you go back down to the Cucamonga Saddle and then head basically straight up a goat trail to the Bighorn summit. I noted this trail as best I can in the photo but it does not give justice to how steep this trail is. Lastly you drop down from Big Horn and begin the couple of mile trek out to Ontario. Got a late start only leaving the house at 5:30 which didn’t help the heat either but luckily I planned my water accordingly.
