How were the temperatures? Where did you camp? I did that a few years back, but the reverse. Hiked Maiden Peak, then camped at Waldo Lake that night. I’m thinking about hiking up late afternoon in time for sunset, camping at or near the summit, and hiking down in the morning. Just seems like it could be a beautiful option, since I’ve hiked it from two different trailheads already. Then I could head down and hike Bailey. 🙂

The temperatures were good: I started at 0900, later than I wanted, but I decided to enjoy a cup of coffee on a log at Gold Lake (the only place the mosquitoes weren’t swarming). I camped there. And then a “trail angel” with a camper was lost and stopped to ask me for directions. I couldn’t really help him seeing as this was my first time in the area. But, he also happened to be perfectly aligned in front of the TH: so I over shot it by 3/4 of a mile before turning around and driving back down the road. The last 2 miles of my descent were on the warmer side, high-80s, but forest covered and there’s a creek:). I got back to my car at 1500 and drove back to Gold Lake for a swim. Lovely. Also, there was no wind at the top: always a plus. And there was a spot where one could camp!
