Decided to try this hike out by summiting Cucamonga, then going over Bighorn, and then onto Ontario Peak. Total hike from the car was close to 17 miles.
The portion from ridge after coming down from Cucamonga and then going up a very steep hill to reach the top of Bighorn (~750′ in under half a mile) had a few very sketchy parts. In fact, towards the beginning of it (about 2oo' up the trail, my heart was racing (175 bpm) when I had considered turning around and realized that didn't look like a good option. When I looked down it was basically a 50% grade to the bottom of the canyon, and I have a little bit of vertigo when it comes to these things. So, I decided to just push myself to keep going up. For about 100′, there really wasn't a trail. It was just loose black gravel-like dirt that I had to dig in with my feet and poles to avoid slipping down the hill. Anyway, when I finally made it up and over Bighorn, the rest of the hike was easy enough, and I while I am glad that I attempted and succeeded, I do not think I will do it again.
