We had a beautiful, clear day for our last hike of the challenge. With Santiago still closed, this was the last of tbe 6 pack alternates that we can complete this year.
We could not have asked for a better finale. With crisp air, miles of visibility and a nice trail, these were some of the best conditions we could ask for. No snow on the trail, and temps in the 50s/60s, it was ideal.
The views looking west from Ontario Peak were just incredible and well worth the trip. We also tacked on Bighorn because, why not? It wasn’t necessary and were it not part of the recommended hike, we likely would skip it in the future. However, we tried to follow the Bighorn trail back to Icehouse saddle- that trail may exist, but it’s really hard to stay on.
I’m very happy to have completed 11 peaks during this challenge, learning more about this beautiful area that we live in and going places I’ve never even heard of. 😃
