Wildflowers blooming

Ample parking at the summit rest stop.  Late start for me at 7:30, but the weather was absolutely perfect.  Two and a half miles in the meadow was full of wildflowers and there were many more all the way to the summit. My first good look at the summit from below was a little daunting, though the trail is never too steep, with the middle section up a narrow gully being the most challenging.  Right about there I met a tall, thin Danish guy heading down who was carrying nothing at all. “No water?” “It’s fine, I’m very fast,” he answered.  “I’m very slow,” I thought. Definitely need the water.  Cool weather prevailed, though I did get fried from several hours of full sun exposure.  The true summit was so unassuming I walked right past it, down a slight decline to the false summit end of the trail.  Took a few selfies trying to display my continuous glucose monitor on my upper arm to remind myself and others that diabetes doesn’t have to keep you from enjoying life. An older couple kindly took my photo at the summit on my way back. I offered to take a photo of them together, but they didn’t see the need – they had just hiked this same trail last Saturday!  Saw lots of people coming up the trail in the heat of the day.  Some kids, some dogs too. Good to see both. The way down should go faster, but my feet weren’t convinced. Back at the parking lot, they were happy to slide out of my Asolos’s and into my Adidas.  The drive home went smoothly except for the section between Incline Village and Truckee, which was mighty slow. Off season is always my favorite time in. Tahoe, I’m just not sure there is an off season anymore. Great hike, though!
