Mount Rose
Also on this hike
The trailhead is over 2 hours from my house, so I started later than I would prefer, at 9:30 am. I was surprised how many people and dogs were already out hiking on a weekday, especially on the first half of the trail before the waterfall.
There were plenty of water sources just before and after the waterfall (about 2.5 miles into the hike). Once you start the slog up the mountain, no more water, at least in August.
The trail to the summit was moderately challenging. It is graded nicely so the majority does not feel too difficult. There are a few stretches with loose rocks, but nothing scary. The final push to the top is really cool because you begin to see the views, and I enjoyed the rocky landscape above treeline.
The trip back down is pretty easy, and because it’s not too terribly steep, it’s not very hard on the knees and hips.
