So many more people should get out and do this trail. Go east in 44. After Eskimo hill, about 5 miles up the road, turn left on Ash Pan Road. Drive 9.7 miles on the gravel road. Turn right onto what looks to be a logging road. Drive 1.7 miles to the trailhead.
In the log book there were 60 people/groups that came up in the last year.
we saw no one, but also there was zero wild life. That was strange. The temp was about 85 when we set out. It’s a lot of climbing, there are no switchbacks, but there was lots of shade so that made the climb quite pleasant.
along the hike you’re rewarded with an elevation marker every 500 feet of climbing, so that is cool.
At the top you see views of Shasta, Lassen, the Thousand Lakes wilderness, Magee Lake, Manzanita Lake, an arm of Shasta Lake, and down into Redding, oh, and the Burney windmills. It was a beautiful vantage point up there.
