Something I want to share with this community directly —

On May 7th, we’re landing in France. Dijon will be our new home base.

For newer members: this isn’t the first time the community has survived a move. The Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge was born in Southern California. We spent a year in Seoul, South Korea. The Bay Area challenge launched while we were living in Oakland. Every location change has added something to what this is. France will be no different.

But this move is also prompting something bigger. I’ve been working toward putting the right people at the helm of Social Hikers — leadership that can give this community their full energy and take it further than I could alone. I’ll be stepping into a founder and advisory role. Details are coming, and I’m genuinely excited about what this means for where Social Hikers goes next.

What’s not changing? The Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge, this community, and everything that makes it worth showing up for.

This is not au revoir, but à bientôt (see you soon)!

Thanks, Innes. As far as Social Hikers goes, I’ll still be here. Just putting some different dirt under my feet. It’s not unlike the year that we spent in South Korea in 2016/17. Exciting times!

Sounds like an exciting adventure ahead for you and Joan! I’m so appreciative for the hikes you have organized in Central Oregon. You will both be missed.

Thank you, Jill! I’m glad we could hike together. I’m putting together a social gathering for the Bend Hiking group this Friday, April 24th — 3pm at Crux Fermentation Project. Hope you can join us!

      We will see. 😉

Joan gave me a book on the best day hikes in France, and I’ve been eyeing section hikes on the Hexatrek. I haven’t researched peaks yet, but there are plenty throughout Europe. Le Six-Pack de Sommets could be fun!

A note about “Le Six-Pack”. The term “six-pack” is known as a “borrowed” term as it’s English, but widely used and understood in the context of “un six-pack de bières”.

“Peak” doesn’t translate as well, as in French it specifically refers to a very sharp, rocky spire (which not all mountains are, and in fact most of the mountains in the current Six-Pack of Peaks are not-so-treacherous. Sommets (summits) would be better understood.
