We did this hike in place of snow covered Cucamonga Peak since we wanted to wait till the snow clears. So far this one of the cool hikes we’ve done so far this year. Easier start with a serious workout towards the top. Lots of false peaks before you reach the real one. Once you get there you rewarded with awesome panoramic views of surrounding mountains, neighborhoods below. Even though it was fairly smoggy, you can still see all of downtown LA and the ocean.
We started out hike 7:30 am but we were lucky to get a parking spot at the Red Box Picnic area. I’d recommend carpooling with others just like we did. That day was pretty sunny and hot and there was hardly any cover the whole way to the peak. Also watch out for the German bayonet plants…pants are recommended to avoid their sharp pokes:) Even though I may do this hike again I will not do it during the hot summer months.
