Today I hiked from Icehouse Canyon Trailhead to Etiwanda Peak and then Cucamonga Peak (Peak 8 of my 12 Pack of Peaks Challenge). From Cucamonga I headed down to Cucamonga Saddle and up the steep ½ mile to Bighorn Peak.
After Bighorn Peak, I crossed over to Ontario Peak (Peak 9 of my 12 Pack of Peaks Challenge). After Ontario I descended down the finger in between Cherry Canyon and Falling Rock Canyon to Sugarloaf Peak. Five peaks, one day. After summiting my last peak for the day, I headed back to the Icehouse Canyon Trail by completing the grueling descent down Falling Rock Canyon.
There were some patches of snow throughout the hike, but the only time I felt the need to put on spikes was on the 1 mile traverse to Etiwanda Peak. I avoided the patches of snow going back to Cucamonga, by staying on the ridgeline (offtrail).
Today’s weather was absolutely perfect! Mid 40’s at the trailhead. Dips in the 30’s at the early summits and at the saddles. Late afternoon temps were easily in the upper 50s or low 60s. There were TONS of hikers on the trail today.
