We tried this hike in early May, but a late start combined the snow, starting at about Little Round Valley and becoming increasingly voluminous with every turn, conspired against a successful summit. At some point, I don’t remember exactly where, we looked at the trail – or lack there of – and decided the going would just be too slow to avoid a hike out in the dark, and we called an early end to the day.

By August 3rd, however, the snow was all gone, and we enjoyed the terraced grades of Marion and Deer Trail on up to the Stone Hut and summit.

We’d car camped the night before at around 6000 ft to acclimatize and to facilitate an early start, and the altitude wasn’t an issue at all (in contrast to the slightly lower Baldy Summit coming from sea level!)

One of these days we’ll hike from the Tramway, or (fear) C to C!
