Arrived at the Trailhead at about 0730. Several cars were already parked on the street outside the lot which is supose to open at 0800. Gate to parking lot was open when I arrived at 0730.
El Cajon Mountain is the hardest and most challenging hike of the SD 6 peaks and (IMHO) it’s harder and more challenging than several of the original 6 peaks.
I recorded 11.6 miles. Temps were very nice today. Low 40’s when I stepped off and mid 60’s as I completed the hike at about 1400. The trail was in great condition. I saw lots of New Year’s Day hikers on the trail today.
