In a nutshell… I hate hiking on fire roads…. so boring!  This year we drove up to the end of Maple Springs Road, parked and hiked the rest of the way 9.5 miles with only 1,311 ft elevation gain. It was really warm hike but seriously… I have no desire to do it again.
