Cuyamaca Peak was my first hike for the day, as I was planning to also complete Volcan, I opted to hike up Lookout Road. This area had been closed for a long time due to utility upgrade work by the San Diego Gas & Electric Company, with the work complete and the Lookout Road fully paved, this would be a quick and easy ascent. About a mile up the road, I encountered snow and ice on the road, I slipped on my microspikes and enjoy the transition from a simple “road” hike to an enjoyable snow-covered winter trek.

Besides bagging the peak for the challenge, my goal was to locate the remaining survey markers that I didn’t find the first time I hiked up here, I did well getting MOST of them, but the snow cover made it tough to find a few of them. Of course, the coolest one was the NASA-GSFC (Goddard Space Flight Center) marker. After a bit of time searching for marks and getting all the required photos, I started back down to head over to Volcan. I only passed a couple of people on my descent so it was a very peaceful morning.
