3-2-1 Challenge Done!
Unlike most hikes, where you go up to a peak and come back, this route takes you up and down three separate peaks. Sawmill Mountain is part of the 3-2-1 Challenge (3 peaks, 2 counties, 1 day). You start off by taking Mount Pinos, then going down a ways and back up to Sawmill Mountain. From here, you can choose to turn around (you’ve reached the mountain for the Six Pack of Peaks challenge), or press on to Grouse Mountain. The trail is in great condition, except for a small section after the top of Mt. Pinos where vegetation and rocks encroach on the trail (Wouldn’t recommend wearing shorts). There’s no crazy altitude on this route; totally doable in an afternoon!
