A Bug’s World – We’re Just Hiking In It
Also on this hike
Hiker be warned, there are bugs when the acorns drop in the fall and don’t believe the weather report. The ripened acorns sitting in the 90 degree weather attracted swarms of bugs (it was supposed to be about 72 degrees). The start of our hike was a deer running across the trail immediately followed by my poor Hopper being bit by a fire ant (we came prepared, and seemed ready to push on). When we found relief from the sun in the shade of the trees we were swarmed by bugs. I was more focused on protecting my dogs faces than hiking, but maybe it’s a nice hike other times of year. The top of the mountain had an old dilapidated fire lookout on the left, a picnic table nearby with a nice view for lunch (no bugs), and to the right through a cramped trail you’ll follow to an old ladder up to a rock. There was glass by the area with the ladder. Fire ants also a problem on this trail, can’t say I’m keen to return too soon.
