Bear Mountain Summit via Lions Head and the Appalachian Trail

Six Pack of Peaks: New England – Bear Mountain
Group I met through work and I met at Bunker Hill Rd Lions Head Trailhead Parking taking Lions Head up to the Appalachian Trail North then to the summit. Weather at the start was a bit overcast from rains earlier in the morning and the night before which left the trails in some areas were wet and muddy which made it easy for someone to slip and lose footing but we did well considering. As the day progressed many of the wet trails became drier and still a bit overcast we were able to get some views from The top of Lions Head. Further up the trail the skies began to break offering beautiful views of the southern areas and mountains near by. Up near summit there were some continued views south, of the valley and the town below. At points we were blessed with a cool refreshing breeze that helped us cool down. At the summit maybe not a full 360 view but could see south, east and north. We could see the mountains nearby that the Appalachian Trail crosses, towns below, sun, blue skies as well as some passing clouds overhead. Ran into a semi larger group, a number of hikers and some AT Thru Hikers. At summit we broke for snacks and rehydrated before we headed back down the Appalachian Trail Southbound back to Lions Head then to the trailhead parking. Along the way we made some stops to take a look at Brassie Brook Shelter, Riga Shelter and another view from the top of Lions Head before heading down. It was definitely a great hike with challenging points going up to summit but was worth it. It was also nice to be able to share my experience with our work hiking club members that wanted to join in the journey. Bear never disappoints.
