My two hiking partners and I are section hiking the AT in New England. We are in our second full year and, thus far have finished sections in CT, VT, and NH. The section of the AT that we hiked on this Memorial Day weekend extended from Bear Mountain Trail to Jug End. We parked at the Mount Frisell Trailhead in the AM and walked down Bear Mountain Trail to the AT. This was the cooler part of the day which turned out to be very warm. It might have been because our legs were fresh or because Bear Mountain is just not that taxing, but we all felt the ascent and descent were easy. The stone pyramid at the summit was unusual and the view was nice. The rest of the hike, involving Race Mountain, Mount Everett, and Jug End, proved to be challenging.
