This was my first time on this hike. It was beautiful! Gates do not open until 8:00a and you must pay $10 per person (not car), but it is worth every penny knowing it supports the Los Coyotes Reservation & Tribe. Although it is a fire road the entire time, it’s very well maintained! The first two miles are definitely a climb and is in full sun, so be sure to start as early as you can. After almost exactly 2 miles it levels out to a gently rolling trail for the most part and you are walking through intermittent shade, which is a nice break. When you reach the water tower, you think it’s the summit, but it isn’t. There’s a summit sign that guides you to the right and from there someone has kindly marked the trail with pink ties on the trees. It’s a short hike up to the actual summit, but you’re met with a ladder and ropes to navigate the interesting scramble to the summit. It’s a little scary for someone not used to rock climbing, but the ropes and stakes are solid, and placed to make it a fairly easy climb up. The views from the top are magnificent!
