Black Crater Scouting Hike
Also on this hike
Fantastic day on Black Crater with Paul and Kim. The skies to the east were hazy with smoke (from where?), but otherwise blue skies and stunning views of the Cascades.
Snow was an issue. The last high was mostly snow covered, making navigation tricky. Trekking poles and microspikes were definitely required! Wildflowers are blooming, and the warm weather will be melting that snow fast, so this hike will be easier in a few weeks.
I’m leading a group hike up Black Crater this Saturday with the Bend Hiking Meetup, and will likely lead a second hike later when the snow has melted.
