Hiked with a group

We started at 5:46 AM and that was the perfect way to beat the heat and enjoy the tranquility of the trail. Instead of heading back the same trail we added a loop that made the hike more adventurous, taking us through another sections of the park and adding more distance. Reaching Black Mountain’s summit felt incredibly rewarding, with its sweeping views and sense of accomplishment.

This hike was a true endurance challenge, but the combination of scenic trails and the early morning serenity made it one of the most fulfilling adventures in the Bay Area. The summit of Black Mountain rewarded us with panoramic views of the Bay Area, including Silicon Valley, rolling hills, and the Santa Cruz Mountains. The trail featured diverse ecosystems, from shaded oak woodlands to open grasslands. Along the way, we spotted deer, and wild but happy turkeys.

Highly recommended for seasoned hikers looking for a challenging but beautiful route!

Tips: Parking as always gets filled in this park so advise is to get their early; Carry plenty of water and some energy snacks to keep you hydrated and stay fueled; Wear comfortable hiking shoes, as the long distance and elevation gain demand good support.
