I set out for my second attempt to get to Cucamonga Peak after a missed opportunity last weekend. I arrived to the trailhead around 6:30 – a half hour before sunrise and was shocked to find that the parking lot was basically full. Outside of a National Park, this has to be one of the busiest trails I’ve done which kind of takes you out of the serene atmosphere of just being on the trail and turns it into a rush and trying to dodge large groups on the trail. Once I got to the saddle, the groups thinned a bit and I was able to regain that hiking feeling so that was nice. But to bring it back to the title it was SO WINDY the day I went. When I got out of the car I honestly thought about turning around it was so windy, but I gambled the wind would die down and they did but it was still pretty windy the whole morning. And cold! The season is officially coming to the end up there – just gotta get a couple more in before snow comes!
