I ran ten miles the evening before this hike, so I figured this would greatly influence the short turnaround I had the next morning for this hike. I was tired but I managed well enough.
There was about a mile of a dirt road that I wasn’t expecting and you park and enter through a summer camp which seemed a bit awkward. The hike was a climb the entire time but nothing too difficult in my opinion. AllTrails has the trail ending at a certain point but to me the peak is where the radio towers are located. So I went up further another mile to the top (round trip) which was the steepest, hottest, and rockiest portion of the entire hike. The views were great (especially of Lake Cachuma) but it was cloudy over the ocean. I did see a hummingbird, lots of quail, and even a deer way up top. I don’t think I’d do this hike again unless it was for a better ocean view.
