Cardiac Mountain: Wheeler or Bust

Another perfect day weather-wise in New Mexico, now in Taos Ski Valley. Wheeler is the first time I’ve hiked over 13,000’. The steep ascent on scree, above treeline, had me seriously concerned about the stress on my heart. Thank goodness for switchbacks. It was a long hard plod to the summit ridge but the 360 degree panoramic views were outstanding. Today was originally chalked down as a Rest Day but the weekend forecast means taking advantage of any weather windows provided. Many hikers on the trail all encouraging each other on the steep scree.
