Conquering My Fear
Also on this hike
Since I was in college I had always heard about Mt. Baldy and had always wanted to go. This elusive giant has always been on my radar, but I was told multiple times I was not fit enough to complete Baldy. I asked and asked and it was always a no. So for a while I stop dreaming of her. I started my health journey about a year ago and had started joining my hiking group… and then the fires came. I was okay completing the 6 peak challenge without Baldy but then the news came that she had opened up. Was this it? Was this my chance to finally meet her? Yes, yes it was. Way Out Wild changed course and added Baldy to the climbs. All the no’s came rushing through though and the morning of I almost backed out but then I told myself I would never forgive myself for backing out. So I said “just go and remember one foot in front of the other no matter what.” That’s exactly what I did. The switchbacks were killer but I trudge and trudge and dug my heels. And then- I made it . I couldn’t believe it. I made it. Worth it and one of my favorite hikes. Words cannot describe what conquering my fears and all the no’s meant to me . Baldy you will have a place in my heart.
