Counterclockwise it is!

Peak #2 of the New England Six Pack of Peaks Challenge, 9-30-2025
Again, another early morning, but a little less of a drive. My original plan was to take the Long Trail as recommended in Social Hiker, but after listening to another local hiker, I decided to do another counterclockwise loop from the Forest City Trail to the Long Trail and then down the Burrows Trail. This turned out to be another great choice.
This route had some great class 2 and 3 rock climbing on the way up. There was not as much slab walking as there was on Mansfield but there was some. Again, I thought to myself, “I’m happy I don’t have to down climb this today.” This hike was a short one compared to Mansfield, but it did have some significant elevation gains per mile.
Mile 1 had a modest 553 feet in gain. Miles 2 & 3 each had 850 and 600 feet in gain respectively. While the final .4 mile gained an impressive 598 feet in elevation. The descent was an easy 2.5-mile stroll compared to the climb up. Making the totals for this hike 5.9 miles with 2,573 feet in total elevation gain. This was peak #2 of the New England Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge.
