Wow! What a morning this was. Day 6 of my AZ trip did not disappoint. Sadly, I had to miss out on the final morning and goodbyes for the trailer rally. That said, it was an early to rise morning, 0330. A 30-minute drive to the Finger Rock Trailhead.
I arrived there right around 0630 and began my trek at about 0640. Mile one was fairly easy with only a 378-foot climb in elevation. Miles two, four and five each climbed between 917 feet and 978 feet in elevation; while Mile three boasted and impressive 1,105-foot climb in elevation.
Five miles up, five miles down and 4,405 feet in total elevation gain and loss. The views at the summit were awesome. I had the peak to myself for about 20 minutes.
Temperature was right around 60 degrees when I started and reach at least 85 degrees as I was descending the final two miles. I drank 1.5 liters of water and electrolytes before I started and took another 3 liters with me, drinking two of those liters with electrolytes as I made my way down the mountain. In addition, I had baby
, grape
, and cuties
for snacks.
When I finished, I was exhausted. I felt like Forrest Grump when he finished his running and said, “I’m pretty tired, I think I’ll go
now.
