ECM Glad it’s Done!!!
Also on this hike
El Cajon Mountains is considered to be one of the hardest hikes in San Diego County and it definitely met that description – especially on this warm day. We had a group of 29, but not all went all the way to the top. The slopes are steep and rocky and there are ups and downs going both ways, so there is not much relief on the way down.
The high that day was 83, but because the trail is so exposed, it felt much warmer. I was glad to have plenty of water, electrolytes, and a sandwich for the top. We started at 8:00, but it probably would have been better to start earlier – the gate was scheduled to open at 8:00, but opened early that day. There were already quite a few people on the trail when we started and we saw quite a few people who were not with our group.
Last time I did this hike, I said I’d never do it again, but I did it and I’m glad I did it, but I don’t plan to ever do it again!!!
